No, really when someone first told me about these I said "You're 'avin a laugh." It sounded so silly, putting a bowl inside a sort of tube and then slinging it backwards and forwards... but then it was pointed out to me that with the bowl in it the weight became similar to a sort of arm exerciser, and the more you polished your bowls the stronger your arms got and that meant that, especiall early in the season, when most of the Club was having trouble getting it up there, he was reaching the long jacks as if they wer right in front of his nose. So after that I took these sleeves very seriously indeed.
