Bowls shop in Enfield

Our bowls shop in Enfield has had three homes. After 10 years at Genotin Terrace  EN1,  Bush Hill Bowls moved to Lincoln Road in March 2023.  We stayed there just over a year and then found our current (wonderful) shop in Bury Street West. The distance between the three locations is small – maybe a mile and half by car, or 800 yards as the crow flies.

Why we left Genotin Terrace

And here’s why: we came to the end of our lease at Genotin Terrace. It was a good lease, interior repairing only (most are ‘full repairing’ meaning the tenant is responsible for anything and everything that needs mending).

We were offered a renewal at a 50% increase, AND a switch to full repairing.  Well, bowls is ok to earn a living, but not to earn a fortune, so we had to move.

Our choice of location raised a few eyebrows at the time.  The house in front of Scoffields Garage was in poor repair and uninhabited.  The ground floor, however, was spacious and after a bit of sprucing up became our temporary new shop while we searched for a more permanent home.

We knew it would be temporary because Medicus Health Partners, which runs the Health Centre opposite the garage, was intending to buy the whole of 180 Lincoln Road, including our shop, Scoffields Garage and all the workshops on the plot. (At the time of writing, October 2026, this still hasn’t happened.)

When might it happen?  Sadly our then landlord, the eponymous Kevin Scoffield, passed away in the summer of 2024 shortly after we moved to Bury Street West, so everything is likely in probate now and we know how long that can all take. In the meantime, the garage continues to operate and can be recommended if you need an MOT – tell Rob that you are a patron of Bush Hill Bowls and he’ll be pleased to see you!
